SUVRISHTI SOMYAG

SUVRISHTI SOMYAG

Suvrushti refers to timely, adequate and well distributed rainfall. Soumik Suvrushti is the theory of Rain Conception Rain Delivery (RCRD) from Vrihatsamhita by Ancient Indian Scientist Rishi Varahmihir. The Soumik Suvrushti Somyag comprises a series of Somayajnya at different locations (12 Jyotirlingas and other places) before monsoon activates, to ensure timely and sufficient rains. In ‘Soumik Suvrushti’, Soumik refers to the oblation of extracted juice of Somalata or Somvalli (Ephedra spp / sarcostemma brevistigma wight.) being offered to the sacred fire of Yajnya with chanting of mantras from all Vedas i.e. Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samveda and Atharvaveda. There are several references regarding the ancient rituals of yajna especially those performed to purify the atmosphere. One such yajna is the soma yajna which is performed in three stages; Cloud formation (in the dry season), Cloud maturation (in the dry season) and cloud precipitation (in the pre-monsoon period). When we perform Somyag, the cosmic energies responsible for ‘creation’ as such, are activated on all three planes i.e. Pruthvi, Antariksh and Dyu.

A vast team of Vedic experts is required for Somayag, who has under gone rigorous Vedic training, observing strict and hard Vedic rules and regulations (a kind of ascetic life) in natural environment for 12 years.
