YANTRA

As of now marginal and small farmers in India are subjected to utilization of tractor and/or power tiller centric agricultural mechanization due to lack of alternatives. Over the last five decades, in the age of intensive chemical agriculture we have focused on tractorisation as the means of agricultural mechanization. Small farm size and economic condition of marginal and small farmers need locally appropriate, crop specific, cost-effective options of farm mechanization.

We are a nation rich in knowledge and skills. Human and animal energy-based agriculture implements existing in our country need ‘re’search, redevelopment and reworking to make them suitable for the present conditions. We believe that ‘Farm mechanization’ includes hand tools and devices which can be animal driven.

In the process of ensuring relevant hand tools for farmers, it is important to assess the requirement as realistically as possible. Thereafter designing tools is undertaken to provide, simple, affordable and with, zero maintenance as design parameters. Once the designs are finalized, the next step is manufacturing these simple tools. As the regions are geographically widely spread, it is important to develop suitable manufacturing strategies to ensure affordable tools and with high accessibility.
